An exciting—and seemingly unlikely—new setting for a New York area record was held right in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn (considered by many to be the new Greenwich Village), at the Brooklyn Bowl. This hip bowling alley, complete with 16 lanes, each equipped with individual video screens, regularly hosts live music shows, along with plenty of excellent food and drink.

This was the third Collect-i-Bowl show held there and the best attended yet. Promoter/DJ Uncle Mike provided great music, putting everyone in a record-buying mood. Dealers at the show included Elmore’s own re-issue Editor Paul Aaronson of Solid Sender Records, Mike of Slipped Disc, Todd from Brass City, Bobby “Soul” Watlington, Neil of Record Cellar, Jamie From Double Decker, Scott Curran, Phil “Deep Cut” Lanigan, and Laura Rebel Angel.

Vinyl diggers fingering the goods.

The focus was mainly on vinyl, with a smattering of CDs, DVDs, posters—even some music-related crafts and clothing. All musical genres, including psychedelic, metal, classic rock, folk, blues, world, R&B, hip-Hop, jazz and punk sold briskly. There were treasures to be unearthed by the many fans who turned out—I know because I found some. The show is highly recommended so look for the next one later this spring.
