Self-Released

Danny Kean is one extremely talented keyboard player. At 27, he has already caught the ears of soul maven Maxine Brown, rock legend Gary U.S. Bonds and the late Sam “The Bluzman” Taylor. Kean’s skills catapulted him to Amateur Night champion at the famed Apollo Theatre – no small feat for the blue-eyed youngster. In this session, he is joined by esteemed NY drummer Phil Bloom and Long Island guitar legend, Don Celenza.

“Crazy Days” opens the album and hits you with everything its got: keyboards, full horns, strong vocals and a searing guitar solo. On “Lover for Hire,” the band gets down with a mellow, soulful groove and backing vocals reminiscent of Hall and Oates. On “I See You,” Kean, blind from birth, unleashes imagination by visualizing all of earth’s beauties, incomparable to those of his true love. Kean closes with “Heaven Help Us All,” a spirited and uplifting vision of eternal optimism.

As infamous NY radio DJ Frankie Crocker might say, “If there’s a dry eye in the house, man, you got a hole in your soul!”

—Ken Shankman
