This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones, yet the venerable rock band has been surprisingly quiet about whether or not they’ll acknowledge their silver anniversary. While the individual members of the band have kept busy (Jagger recently hosted Saturday Night Live, Richards appeared in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Ron Wood played with the reunited Faces, and Charlie Watts recently put out The A, B, C, and D of Boogie Woogie), activity from the full band has been sparse.  Now, Rolling Stone  is reporting that something may be in the works.

This April, the band rehearsed for a week in New York City, which marks the first time that the band performed together since the end of the massive  A Bigger Bang tour in 2007. They later invited a documentary crew to film them for an upcoming film about the band set for release in this fall.

Keith Richards described the rehearsals as “playing in a garage, like a maintenance check, you know?”  He also dismissed reports about ongoing tension between himself and Mick Jagger, saying that he would “have no doubt” about writing songs with Jagger again.

Director Brett Morgan, who filmed the band during the sessions, was excited about the possibility of more Stones work in the future, saying that he “would rank [the rehearsals] up there with any of the archival material I’ve seen in the past six months.”
