Girls Frontman Christopher Owens Quits Band

San Francisco rock band Girls have consistently been one of the most innovative rock bands in America today, but it sadly seems as if their time in the limelight has ended too soon. This morning, the band’s frontman and principal songwriter Christopher Owens took to Twitter to announce that he was leaving the band:

“Dear all, this may come as a surprise to many & has been an issue of much thought for me. My decision was not easy to make. I am leaving Girls. My reasons at this time are personal. I need to do this in order to progress. I will continue to write & record music. More will be announced soon. I thank you all for everything. Sincerely – Christopher”

As of this time, we cannot confirm whether or not Owens’ former bandmate JR White will continue to perform under the band name.

Girls burst onto the scene in 2009 with their critically acclaimed album entitled Album. Their second (and presumably final) album Father, Son, Holy Ghost came out last year. The band also released an EP called Broken Dreams Club in 2010.
