Levon Helm Tribute Show Comes To New Jersey In October

The life and music of Levon Helm touched the lives of many great musicians, which made it all the more heartbreaking when he passed away in April after a battle with cancer. Now, many of the musicians who admired him most will get the chance to pay tribute to him live.

This October, the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey will host Love For Levon, an all-star benefit show featuring Levon’s friends as well as musicians who admired his work. Headlining the show are My Morning Jacket, Ray LaMontagne and John Mayer, whose latest country-tinged record owes some debt to Levon’s most well-known work. Other performers on the bill include Dierks Bentley, Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes, Bruce Hornsby, John Hiatt, Mavis Staples, Marc Cohn, Lucinda Williams and Jorma Kaukonen. The event will also feature a house band led by Don Was and Larry Campbell; Campbell served as Helm’s musical director during the famous Midnight Rambles held in upstate New York.

“We are deeply moved that so many musicians and Levon’s friends are coming together to celebrate his life and his music, and to keep the spirit and vision alive in the Midnight Rambles,” said Sandy and Amy Helm, Levon’s wife and daughter, in a statement issued to the press.

Tickets for the show go on sale on August 29th via Ticketmaster. The proceeds from the show will go towards helping the Helms keep ownership of Levon’s home, barn and studio, as well as continuing the Midnight Rambles that Levon held there.
