Darius Rucker to Join Grand Ole Opry

Tuesday night was going to be just a normal night for Darius Rucker. Rucker was performing at the famous Grand Ole Opry. After his performance, he took some questions from his fans in the audience. One of his “fans,” country singer/songwriter and Grand Ole Opry member Brad Paisley appeared in the audience with his own questions for Rucker. Paisley asked, “Are you still the worst poker player in the world?” followed by “Would you like to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry?” Rucker wholeheartedly accepted and embraced Paisley, who welcomed him to the Opry family. “I wasn’t expecting anything today. I didn’t think tonight is the night I’d be asked to be a member of the Opry. That’s unbelievable,” Rucker said after the show. Rucker, formerly of popular South Carolina rock band Hootie & the Bluefish, can now count himself as one of the country music elite who have made a home at the Opry. Rucker is the third African-American to hold an Opry membership, after Country Music Hall of Famers DeFord Bailey and Charley Pride. Rucker will be inducted into the Opry on October 16th
