Nick Oliveri Rejoins Queens of the Stone Age For New Album

Josh Homme has been shaping the much-anticipated new record from Queens of the Stone Age for what seems like forever, and every new detail about the record is more and more intriguing. First, there was the news that Homme had fired drummer Joey Castillo. Then, we heard that Homme’s frequent collaborator and head Foo Fighter Dave Grohl was going to be contributing drums to the record in Castillo’s place. Today, though, Homme threw us all for a loop when he announced that former QOTSA bassist Nick Oliveri would be returning to the fold for this record.

Oliveri has not played with Homme since being kicked out of the band in 2004, and he has since ran afoul of both Homme and, it seems, everyone else. He joined the reformed version of Homme’s old band Kyuss-named Kyuss Lives!-which was the subject of an ongoing legal dispute. On top of this, Oliveri himself has been in legal hot water stemming from a domestic dispute case in 2011. However, a post on the Facebook page of Oliveri’s side project Mondo Generator announced that he had “recorded his vocals on a new Queens of the Stone Age song” along with the unexpected news that he had rejoined Kyuss Lives! The post ended with the cryptic words “stay tuned,” implying that there could be more to Oliveri’s return than just one song.
