Rage Against The Machine – Rage Against The Machine XX (Sony/Legacy)

Artist:

Album:

Label:

Release Date:

We can argue that RATM never again scaled the hellfire heights of their 1992 debut with their later recordings, but that doesn’t lessen the diamond hard fact that Rage Against The Machine is a seminal recordinga ferocious perfect storm of rap, grunge, metal and revolution.

There have been many angry young men in the history of music, but have any of them been as loud or as fully cultivated as RATM, the ultimate powder keg of sound? The Clash? Perhaps, but that’s another discussion. Right now we’re occupying your streets with Tom Morello’s beyond Zeppelin shreds. We’re mic checkin’ Wall Street with Zack de la Rocha’s smart bomb raps. We’re circlin’ the White House with the charging rhythm machine of Commerford and Wilk. We’re making our voices heard with the incendiary “Bombtrack,” “Take the Power Back,” “Settle for Nothing,” “Bullet in the Head” and “Wake Up.”

XX is the 20th anniversary release, a two CD, two DVD package featuring the original demo tape that inspired Epic to sign the band. Live bonus tracks and b-sides abound. The two DVDs include such previously unreleased footage as The Battle of Britain from Finsbury Park, London, 2010 and RATM’s first public performance from California State, October 1991. Also included are all the music videos and assorted live performances from throughout their career. It’s a hell of a lot to take in, but the rush is unmistakable!
