New Strokes Song “One Way Trigger” Streaming On Band’s Website

The Strokes new single One Way TriggerPreviously, The Strokes caught us by surprise by announcing that they were working on a followup to their 2011 comeback album Angles. According to a radio station in Seattle, the first single was supposed to be a song called “All The Time,” but the band got the jump on all of us and premiered a new song, “One Way Trigger” on their website.

The song is a bit of a departure for the Strokes, even if it continues their obsession with ’80s pop; the synth-based intro sounds uncannily like a-ha’s “Take On Me.” Singer Julian Casablancas spends much of the song singing in a falsetto that’s far removed from the Lou Reed-like growl that became his trademark in the early 2000s. It’s not as immediately hooky as some of their earlier singles, but it may be the most interesting single that the band have released in a long time.
