Thurston Moore’s Chelsea Light Moving Announce New Album

clm-pic-537x402Sonic Youth have been dormant for close to two years now, but the individual members of the band have kept themselves busy with other musical projects, especially singer/guitarist Thurston Moore. He spent part of last year on tour behind his excellent solo album Demolished Thoughts, and he’s preparing for an even busier 2013 with the release of the first album with his new band Chelsea Light Moving. The self-titled album will be released March 2nd on Matador Records. What’s more, the group-which had only played a handful of one-off shows before) will embark on their first U.S. tour on March 2nd.

The band, which Moore formed with guitarist Keith Wood, bassist Samara Lubelski, and drummer John Moloney, recalls the louder, more abrasive moments Moore had with Sonic Youth. The songs that we’ve heard also indicate that Moore’s obsession with underground cultural figures is still present; their song “Burroughs” liberally quotes the last words of the famed Beat poet. For a certain kind of Sonic Youth fan who’s feeling their extended absence hard, Chelsea Light Moving will likely be satisfying.
