R.I.P. Country Singer Mindy McCready

Mindy McCready dead of apparent suicideAccording to various reports coming out this morning, country singer Mindy McCready has died at her home in Heber Springs, Arkansas in what is believed to be a suicide. She was 37 years old.

McCready first burst on to the country scene in 1996 with her album Ten Thousand Angels, which went double platinum in a time when the runaway success of artists like Shania Twain made McCready’s bright, spunky, polished take on country music extremely successful on the charts. However, despite the success of singles like “A Girl’s Gotta Do What A Girl’s Gotta Do,” McCready’s personal life slowly began to take precedence over her music. Her subsequent albums saw declines in sales, and she was shifted from label to label. In the past few years, McCready struggled publicly with addiction to drugs and alcohol, and her personal life became a media circus following several arrests, suicide attempts, and the revelation of her affair with former baseball star Roger Clemens.

McCready leaves behind two children, one of whom is nine months old.
