The National To Perform One Song For Six Hours

The National MoMA SorrowNew York indie rock fans will get a treat this week when The National return home for a show at MoMA P.S. 1…except that it isn’t going to be the kind of show that you’d expect. The band are working with an Icelandic artist named Ragnar Kjartansson on an exhibit called “A Lot Of Sorrow.” For the piece, The National will be playing one song, “Sorrow,” for six hours. Yes, six hours of one song.

“By stretching a single pop song into a day-long tour de force the artist continues his explorations into the potential of repetitive performance to produce sculptural presence within sound,” MoMA said in a statement on the art piece. For their part, The National will only play live in intervals, but the audio of the song will be repeated for the duration of the show.

The National will be performing from noon to 6pm on April 28th. They probably won’t take requests, but you can try.
