Preservation Hall Jazz Band Announces New Album with Jim James

461805The Preservation Hall Jazz Band takes its sound straight out of New Orleans’ French Quarter. The band has performed all over the world for decades, with many of the members having performed with the pioneers of jazz: Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Bunk Johnson and others. That’s right; you should be thoroughly impressed. You should also get pumped up for this summer, when the band will release its first album of original music.

The album, That’s It! will feature a very special guest, Jim James of My Morning Jacket. James produced the album with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s Ben Jaffe.

“When I heard ‘Dear Lord’ in my head, I saw a funeral parade like the ones my dad played at when I was growing up. It’s an incredibly sad day and everybody’s dancing and rejoicing. You have to grow up with it,” Jaffe told Rolling Stone, regarding one of the songs on the new album. “When Ronell starts singing, you can tell he’s been hearing this kind of music his whole life. This is the kind of song they’d be playing once they finished the dirge. Everybody would start dancing and rejoicing; it’s a celebration.”

That’s It! is set for release on July 9 via Legacy Recordings. If you can’t wait until then, you can check out the Preservation Hall Jazz Band as it plays a whole list of festivals this summer, including Sasquatch and Bonnaroo. For more information, visit the band’s website.
