2013 Polaris Award Nominees Announced

imagesTegan and Sara’s latest album, Heartthrob, is up for consideration for Canada’s prestigious Polaris Prize. The duo’s album is going up against Metric’s Synthetica, the Besnard Lakes’ Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO and New Pornographers frontman AC Newman’s solo album, Shut Down the Streets. But these are just a few of among 40 artists nominated for the award.

“This year’s long list is all over the map, but in the best possible way,” said Polaris founder and Executive Director Steve Jordan in a statement.

The Polaris Prize is awarded to the Canadian Album of the Year, and the artist wins $30,000. The big decision is made by a panel of 200 journalists. The Polaris panel tries to be as unbiased as possible, focusing solely on merit. Sales and genre are not taken into consideration.

“A lot of our jury expressed that this was the most difficult Polaris ballot they’ve ever submitted. The results of this careful and passionate deliberation will make for some truly engaging listening for music lovers,” said Jordan.

The Polaris Gala will be held on September 23. For a full list of this year’s Polaris Awards nominees, check out the official website.
