George Clinton Publishing a Memoir

george_clinton-1-tif-bigFunk pioneer George Clinton will be releasing a memoir soon. Clinton has teamed up with Ben Greeman, a novelist and editor from The New Yorker, for the project. Greenman also collaborated with Roots drummer Questlove for his book Mo Meta Blues: The World According to Questlove.

The book will take readers on a journey through the career of the 72-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who started out as a member of a New Jersey barbershop quartet and eventually became part of Parliament and Funkadelic.

As can be expected with most music memoirs, the book will also include the juicy tidbits, such as Clinton’s struggles with addiction and the legal troubles he encountered while trying to get control over copyrights allegedly stolen early on in his career. The book will be published through Atria Books.

“Clinton’s life is every bit as outrageous, revolutionary and intoxicating as his music,” Malaika Adero, vice president and senior editor of Atria, said in a statement.

“They can take what they can take, but they can’t take my story,” Clinton said in a statement.

Clinton’s memoir is tentatively set for publication in the spring of 2014.
