Pixies Release First New Song in Nine Years

maxresdefaultEver wonder what those grocery store bagboys do in their spare time? Apparently, they totally wreck houses. That’s what happens in the Pixies’ new video for “Bagboy,” the band’s first new song in nine years.

In the video, the bagboy does some shopping at the grocery store and rides to a house on his bike. When he reaches the house, he smashes plates, breaks lamps, silly-strings walls and bathes in a tub full of Froot Loops. While the bagboy destroys the house, Black Francis half talks and half sings the vocals.

“The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called ‘Break My Body,’” Francis said in a statement. “The music for the song has been around for a few years. There are some demos I made with Joey and David a few years ago in Los Angeles related to a film idea that still has yet to see the light of day, although work on the music continued.”

The last new song the Pixies released was 2004’s “Bam Thwok.” Since then, the band has toured on and off. This new song release comes right after the announcement of the departure of bassist Kim Deal from the band. You can watch the video for “Bagboy” below.
