Third Man Records To Issue Live Albums On Acetate

Third Man Records acetateOn June 25th, Third Man Records plans to issue the first in a series of live albums using what it calls a “one-of-a-kind” direct-to-acetate. The albums from The Shins, The Kills, and Seasick Steve were recorded without overdubs in Third Man’s Nashville studios and then cut on a 1953 Scully Lathe previously used by Cincinnati’s King Records.

“The good people at Third Man believe that this new/old method of recording is as honest as it gets,” representatives of the label said in a press statement, “bringing listeners as close to the experience of live performance as possible.”

All three acetates are available to purchase individually or as a three-record bundle at the Third Man Records shop in Nashville or on the Third Man website. Below, watch a behind-the-scenes video of the recording process featuring Seasick Steve:
