Dave Grohl’s “Sound City” Certified Gold

sound-city-poster_article_story_mainDave Grohl’s “Sound City” documentary, the drummer’s feature-length directorial debut that featured a full lineup of star-studded guests and stunning collaborations, has just gone gold. RIAA gold long-form video certification is given for physical sales of at least 50,000 copies. “Sound City” has sold more than 100,000 copies, with 50,000 in DVD sales and 50,000 digital sales. And that’s just the U.S. alone.

The film digs into the history and legacy of California’s Sound City Studios and its custom-built Neve 8028 recording console that recorded artists such as Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Cheap Trick and others. “Sound City” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and hit theaters the following month.
