Bowie’s “Sound and Vision” Remix Getting Wide Release

david-bowie-sound-and-vision-1977-4In February, Sony commissioned a remix of David Bowie’s “Sound and Vision” from his 1977 classic, Low. The new version of the track, which was created by Sonjay Prabhakar, was less than a minute long and ran for an Xperia Z smartphone ad campaign. However, the 58-second jam still got fans excited, and the Bowie faithful called for the full number.

On Oct. 7, Parlaphone Records will release the extended “Sound and Vision” remix as a digital download. According to Bowie’s website, this version features just Bowie’s vocals (along with Mary Hopkin’s backing vocals) and Roy Young’s piano. A statement on the website explains, “By stripping away much of the original instrumentation to just leave Roy Young’s plaintive piano, Mary Hopkin’s backing vocal and the lead vocal, the song takes on a new, reflective resonance.”

“Sound and Vision,” which originally appeared on Low, was released as a single in the U.K. that same year and reached No. 3 on the U.K. Singles Chart. Both the new “Sound and Vision” and the original will be available to digitally download on Oct. 7.
