This winter will see the release of “Inside Llewyn Davis,” a new Coen brothers film that examines a week in the life of a singer as he moves through the Greenwich Village folk scene in 1961. The film, which is loosely based on the life of the late singer and guitarist Dave Van Ronk, will star Oscar Isaac in the titular role, along with Carey Mulligan, Justin Timerlake and others. In preparation for the film, Jack White, Joan Baez, Marcus Mumford, Conor Oberst, Carolina Chocolate Drops and others will headline a benefit show on Sept. 29 in New York’s Town Hall.

Organized by T Bone Burnett, the big event will benefit the National Recording Preservation Foundation, which works to protect music and radio archives. The event will feature performances of songs from the early 1960s that inspired the film and music from the film itself.

“We decided to do a concert to bring together the community that had done the music,” Burnett said, “So there would be some synergy between the music and the film.”

Other artists set to perform are Colin Meloy of the Decemberists, the Punch Brothers, Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Milk Carton Kids, Lake Street Drive and lead actor Isaac. Patti Smith, Dave Rawlings and Gillian Welch will also make appearances.

“The idea was to round up the best of these young musicians to come up and do a show around the music,” Burnett said.

Burnett also produced the Grammy Award-winning soundtrack for Joel and Ethan Coen’s O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Tickets for the Inside Llewyn Davis concert will go on sale this Wednesday at noon on Ticketmaster. Inside Llewyn Davis will be out in theaters on Dec. 6, and the soundtrack is set for release on Sept. 17.
