The Replacements Play First Show In 22 Years

The Replacements Riot FestThe Replacements made their triumphant return to the stage for the first time in 22 years this weekend at Toronto’s Riot Fest. The band, which features original members Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson along with Westerberg collaborators Josh Freese and David Minehan-tore through a lengthy, career-spanning set that included numerous songs from their classic album Tim and Let It Be, as well as a few songs off of their recent charity EP Songs For Slim.

Reportedly, Westerberg was noticeably more sober than he was in the Replacements’ heyday, and the band showed no indication of slipping into a full set of inebriated covers. They did find time to play a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Maybellene,” though.
