Tedeschi Trucks Band and The Black Crowes are both musical powerhouses in their own right. When the two groups combined forces for a tour, fans awaited a summer of breathtaking live shows.

Soulful horns, deftly played keyboards and a tight rhythm section make the Tedeschi Trucks Band a force to be reckoned with.  Susan Tedeschi fronts the ensemble without breaking a sweat – a testament to her power as a vocalist. Extended jams on “Bound for Glory” and “Love Has Something to Say” allowed musicians to stretch out and flex their considerable muscle.  Derek Trucks’ lyrical, flowing guitar solos floated above each tune’s melodic foundation.

The Black Crowes took a less delicate approach than their co-headliners, but whatever they lacked in finesse they made up for with swagger and sheer abandon. High-octane renditions of “Jealous Again” and “Remedy” shook the walls, while the moody “Sister Luck” and a guitar and mandolin fueled “Talks to Angels” revealed the band’s softer side.  When both groups took the stage for a joyous workout on Bobby Bland’s “Turn On Your Lovelight,” it was enough to make the audience fall in love with rock and roll all over again.

Their absolutely killer version of “With a Little Help From My Friends”—which I have heard live twice in the last six months, once by Paul McCartney and once by Ringo Starr—was epic. Susan Tedeschi’s powerful vocals have only improved over the years, and her young husband, playing guitar professionally since his teens, still has tricks tucked in his slide. […]
