Deer Tick Debut New Song “Thyme”

Deer Tick ThymeDeer Tick have been slowly unveiling their new album Negativity over the past few weeks, releasing seven of the album’s 12 songs on their Soundcloud. At this rate, we’re probably going to hear the whole album by its September 24th release date: the band are streaming yet another new song, “Thyme,” exclusively on Spin.

Singer/guitarist John McAuley takes a step back on “Thyme,” letting drummer Dennis Ryan take lead vocals as he did periodically on 2011’s Divine Providence. The end result is something of a horror ballad with lyrics that probably would have been delivered with drunken swagger from McAuley; in Ryan’s hands, however, “Thyme” is eerily unsettling, a step forward for a band clearly interested in branching out.

Negativity comes out on September 24th on Partisan Records.
