After five years of relative silence, Beck is returning with a new album on a new label. The eccentric singer/songwriter signed to Capitol Records to release his next project, Morning Phase, which is due out in February 2014.

The album marks the first new collection of recorded material from Beck since 2008’s Modern Guilt (Beck released an “album” called Song Reader in 2012, but the album was only available as sheet music.) Beck has described Morning Phase as a companion piece to his 2002 classic Sea Change, a mournful built around acoustic guitar numbers. Many of the musicians who performed with Beck on Sea Change-including Smokey Hormel and Joey Waronker-have rejoined him for Morning Phase.

Despite not having released a proper album in a while, Beck has kept plenty busy lately, releasing a split single with Jack White on Third Man Records and arranging a version of David Bowie’s “Sound + Vision” for a 160-piece orchestra. Beck has also been touring throughout the summer, and his shows have recalled those he did while touring behind Sea Change and 1997’s Mutations.

Beck is set to begin a tour of South America in November. No word yet on whether he plans to tour behind Morning Phase.
