Steve Earle Joins John Lennon Tribute Show Lineup

download (1)The Theatre Within’s John Lennon tribute has been going on since 1981, a year after the Beatle’s tragic death. Founded by Alec Rubin and Joe Raiola, it became an event for artists to consider Lennon’s effect on their lives and the power of his music. Since its inception, the likes of Jackson Browne, Patti Smith, Taj Mahal, Alejandro Escovedo, and more; Yoko Ono even appeared at the event in 2010.

This year’s John Lennon Tribute, which will take place at New York’s Symphony Space, already has a stellar lineup including Marc Cohn, Bettye LaVette, Joan Osborne, Dana Fuchs, and the Fab Faux’s Rich Pagano. Today, it was announced that country/folk star Steve Earle will be joining the tribute, as well. Well-regarded for his social conscience as well as his songwriting prowess, Earle is one of many fine musicians who could be considered a spiritual successor to John Lennon, so his inclusion is that much more of a delight.

A portion of the proceeds from this year’s John Lennon Tribute will be shared with Spirit Foundations, an organization started by John and Yoko to support charities that address the needs of the elderly, abused women and children, and victims of terrorism or natural disasters. Tickets for the tribute-which takes place on December 6th, the anniversary of Lennon’s death-can be purchased here.
