The Who To Stop Touring In 2015

The Who break up2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of The Who, and according to Pete Townshend, that’s where the band will end. In an interview with the Evening Standard, Townshend said that the band would go on tour to commemorate their Silver Jubilee, but that that tour would “be the last big one.”

This year, The Who went on an extensive tour to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their rock opera Quadrophenia, but the band have had to contend with health issues in the past few years: Townshend has suffered from tinnitus for years, and Daltrey had to contend with a throat cancer scare in 2010.

Of course, some fans are probably going to take this announcement with a grain of salt: The Who last broke up in 1983, only to reunite sporadically before becoming a full-fledged band again in 1999. Their last album, Endless Wire, came out in 2006.

The band are also prepping a deluxe edition of their classic rock opera Tommy, due out on November 11th.
