VIDEO PREMIERE: The White Buffalo in “Joe & Jolene”

The gritty, resonating voice of Jake Smith, who performs under the name The White Buffalo, is one of the more welcome voices in Americana today. In the tradition of storytellers like Steve Earle and Johnny Cash, Smith’s work has a darkness rarely seen in music today, and it has won him such famous fans as Lucinda Williams, Iggy Pop, and Iron & Wine.

Smith has been killing it this past month with his new album, Shadows, Greys And Evil Ways. Today, we are proud to premiere the video for the latest White Buffalo single, “Joe & Jolene.” In the wider context of the album, the song works as an affecting plea from a flawed man to the woman he loves, but it’s somehow even more powerful on its own. The video certainly helps that, as it features Smith in his element as a live performer.
