Jo Dee Messina’s Self-Released, Kickstarter-Funded Album ‘Me’ Sees March Release

1234063_10151542147487680_1513077040_nAfter leaving her previous label Curb Records, Jo Dee Messina forged her own way for the release of Me. The album will come out on her own brand new label Dreambound Records this March. Messina left Curb along with artists like Tim McGraw and Hank Williams III when the label refused to release her music in a timely fashion. Instead, Messina turned to the fan-supported site Kickstarter.com to raise funds for this album. With her campaigned entitled “My time. My Music” that took place last May, she exceeded a $100,000 goal with a net pledge of $121,743.

Following the successful funding, Messina then used social media to let her fans choose the songs she included on the album, the album’s artwork and even album title and first single “Peace Sign.

A few songs on the album were inspired by her departure from her former label, including “Not Dead Yet.”

“I had been listening to the naysayers around me and thought, ‘I have so much to offer now that I’m free of the restraints I had with my label,’” Messina said. “I then had a conversation with my friend and co-writer saying, ‘I have so much left to do, so much left to say. Goodness! I’m not dead yet!’ And that is how the song was born.”

Me will come out on March 18 of this year and Messina is currently touring, check out her tour dates here.
