Alex Bleeker would be plenty awesome if he were only the bassist for Real Estate, but there’s more to him than his work in the New Jersey-based surf-rock band. Bleeker has also kept a long-running going in the form of Alex Bleeker & The Freaks, a group that once consisted of his Real Estate pals but has since evolved into a full-fledged band in its own right. Their 2013 album How Far Away was one of the year’s unexpected delights, ably meshing folk, country, and indie rock into a catchy, pleasant package.
