An album of gospel renditions of Bob Dylan songs has resurfaced after 45 years in the vaults. The album, titled Dylan’s Gospel, is set to be released on Light In The Attic Records on April 1st.

The album was the brainchild of producer Lou Adler, who assembled a 27-person gospel choir to perform a handful of Dylan’s songs, including “Lay Lady Lay,” “I Shall Be Released,” and “Quinn The Eskimo (Mighty Quinn).” The whole album was recorded in a two-day studio session, but it hasn’t seen release until now.

A documentary about the album is available to watch on Rolling Stone‘s website. Directed by Jessica Hundley, the doc contains interviews from Adler and singer Merry Clayton, who performed on the album.

The gospel album is just one of a number of Dylan-related archival projects happening this year. A live recording of the tribute concert for Dylan’s 30th Anniversary is coming out on March 4th, while hints have been dropped that the next entry in the Bootleg Series will focus on Dylan’s landmark album Blood On The Tracks.
