Doobie Brothers Working With Country Stars On Tribute Album

Doobie Brothers country albumThe Doobie Brothers are paying tribute to their long and storied career in an interesting way. The band are recording a tribute album with several of the biggest stars in country music, including Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band, and many more.

The Doobie Brothers have had numerous lineup shifts throughout their career, which has affected their sound in many ways. For this album, though, the band and producer David Lyndon Huff aimed to recapture the sound of the band’s earliest recordings. Patrick Simmons and Tom Johnston are still serving as the band’s co-frontmen, and Michael McDonald is rejoining the Doobies for the project, marking his first appearance with the group since departing in 1982.

Huff, who also works as a singer and studio musician, didn’t need much convincing to work on the project. “The Doobie Brothers are such an important band in the history of music,” he said when discussing the project. “The hits transcend time, so with this new collection we are just adding modern production and collaborations with the country stars.”

The album is due out later this year via Sony Music Nashville.
