Bands meet and get together in interesting ways, but the formation of The Both might be the most uniquely 21st-Century version of the “let’s start a band” story. Singer Aimee Mann brought Ted Leo on tour as an opener in 2012, and the two became fast friends on the road and especially on Twitter, where the two still go back and forth. That led Mann and Leo to start a one-off band together called #BOTH, which eventually became The Both. The band’s first album, due out April 15th, ably meshes Mann’s skills as a songwriter with Leo’s undeniable, punk-infused energy. That’s all bound to translate well to the band’s live shows, which are as funny as engaging as their songs.
