It appears that Brian Wilson has been busy in between tours with the Beach Boys and Jeff Beck. In an article in Rolling Stone that Wilson has since reposted on his website, the former Beach Boy has revealed that he is at work on a brand new album with a star-studded list of collaborators that includes Lana Del Rey, Kacey Musgraves, Frank Ocean, and Zooey Deschanel.
According to Wilson, each of the guest stars will be featured on individual songs: Ocean will tentatively appear on a song called “Special Love,” while Musgraves is set to appear on “On The Island,” which Wilson describes as “space-age bossa nova.”
Some of Wilson’s fans have apparently expressed some displeasure about his choice of collaborators, and Wilson responded with a carefully-worded note on his Facebook page that invoked an outburst that Wilson received from former bandmate Mike Love: ” In my life in music, I’ve been told too many times not to fuck with the formula, but as an artist it’s my job to do that – and I think I’ve earned that right.”
As of right now, there is still no release date for Wilson’s new album, but we certainly hope that these recordings see the light of day.
