Raul Malo

Since storming Nashville (by way of Miami) with the Mavericks in the early ’90s, Raul Malo has loomed large over several genres, ranging from country to Latin to Americana. Breaking through with 1994’s What a Crying Shame, the Mavericks released six albums—one gold, one platinum, three in country’s top ten—before disbanding in 2004. By then, Malo had already released his solo debut, and 2010’s Sinners and Saints marked his sixth solo album. Just two years later, the Mavericks reunited, first with a tour and then with a new album, 2013’s acclaimed In Time. Currently, the Mavericks are on the road through September.

    • I agree! This is a really great piece. I always loved to read the What’s in Your Bag features in printed issues of Elmore and I’m so glad it’s being carried over to the website. Can’t wait to peek into another musician’s bag
