Director, Producers of Gregg Allman Biopic Charged With Involuntary Manslaugter

Gregg Allman lawsuitRandall Miller and Jody Savin, the director and producer of the since-abandoned Gregg Allman biopic Midnight Rider, have been charged with involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass in connection to an incident which resulted in the death of 27 year-old production assistant Sarah Jones, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Producer Jay Sedrish was also named as a defendant in the case. If convicted, all three could face up to 10 years in prison.

Jones was killed while Midnight Rider was being filmed on location in Georgia in February. The film crew set up along a train bridge above the Altamaha River in Wayne County when a freight train tore through the set. It is unclear at this time whether Miller and Savin had acquired permission to film on the tracks. Jones’ parents filed a civil suit against everyone involved with the film (including Allman, who served as an executive producer on the film), as well as CSXT Transportation, the company that runs the railroad where the incident occurred.

Production on Midnight Rider has been suspended indefinitely following the incident. William Hurt was set to play Allman in the film, but he has since dropped out.
