Pink Floyd To Release First New Album In 20 Years

Pink Floyd new albumPink Floyd surprised everyone this holiday weekend with the announcement that they are releasing their first new album in 20 years. Titled The Endless River, the album is expected to be released in October of this year, according to a tweet posted by guitarist David Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson.

The album is based around recordings that Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason, and keyboardist Richard Wright made during the sessions for their last album, The Division Bell. According to Pink Floyd backup singer Durga McBroom-Hudson, who sings on the album, The Endless River is based on a side project the band undertook at the time that was originally intended to be released alongside Bell; the album was originally intended to be instrumental, but Gilmour has since been working on lyrics and vocal tracks for the recording.

While The Endless River will feature the last recordings of Richard Wright (who died in 2008), the record will not feature any contributions from former member Roger Waters, according to Spin. Pink Floyd also have no plans to tour behind the new album.
