Bill Kreutzmann Announces All-Star Band to Perform at Lockn’ Music Festival

the_grateful_dead-27762Bill Kreutzmann, best known as the heartbeat of the Grateful Dead, has revealed the lineup for his new band. The Locknstep All-stars — set to debut on September 5th at the Lockn’ Music Festival in Arrington, Virginia — is composed of bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers), keyboardist Aron Magner (Disco Biscuits/Conspirator) and guitarist Steve Kimock (Ratdog.)

“With Locknstep Allstars and whatever I lock or step into after this, we’re not trying to compete and we’re not trying to recreate,” Kreutzmann told Rolling Stone. “We have to do better than that. We have a duty to the music to play these songs for a new generation, but we also have a duty to include the new generation in the music-making process.”

Locknstep Allstars will also be joined on stage by many guests- including Keller Williams, Papa Mali, Taj Mahal, and Col. Bruce Hampton. The latter two musicians have performed with Kreutzmann and the rest of the Grateful Dead multiple times before, first in 1968.

“Nobody’s going to fill in for Jerry Garcia. We’ve tried that. It’s impossible,” Kreutzmann said, addressing what we were all wondering.
