Since 2011, Mexico City-based trio A Love Electric (led by guitarist/vocalist Todd Clouser) have released three albums and, in 2013 alone, performed over 150 concerts, from rock festivals to jazz clubs, across three continents. Mexico City’s leading newspaper, La Jornada, called them “the tomorrow of rock.”

In addition to Clouser, the trio features Aaron Cruz on bass and Latin Grammy Winner Hernan Hecht on drums. For their upcoming album, Son of a Hero (due out September 16), the band also brought in celebrated keyboardist John Medeski.

Son of a Hero‘s “Tlalpan Girl” showcases A Love Electric’s trademark musical diversity. While the song channels psychedelic influences, it also brings to mind Lou Reed, incorporating the distinct sound of New York City’s downtown scene. Overall, the track remains modern, substantive and still familiar to fans of indie, experimental and jazz just the same.

Listen to “Tlalpan Girl” below (where you’ll also find their video for “Be the Evolution”), then check them out live at New York’s Rockwood Music Hall on September 28 (more tour dates here).
