Roger Waters To Premiere Documentary At TIFF

Roger Waters documentaryFrom 2010 to 2013, Roger Waters undertook a massive tour during which he performed Pink Floyd’s 1980 opus The Wall, and he filmed himself along the way. The resulting film, which Waters co-directed with Sean Evans, will see the light of day for the first time later this year at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“Ever since The Wall was released, it has become one of the classic rock albums of our time,” TIFF CEO Piers Handling said in a statement issued about the film. “Its popularity continues and its message is still timely.” For the film, Waters brought the album’s theme’s of war and alienation into focus and showed how they were incorporated into an incredibly elaborate stage show. The film’s synopsis promises a “exhilaratingly visceral experience” of Waters’ live performance.

Waters’ Wall tour was one of the most successful tours of the singer/songwriter’s career, grossing over $548 million. Waters himself admitted to Rolling Stone that topping the tour would be difficult if not impossible. In the meantime, Waters is at work on a solo album, his first since 1992’s Amused To Death. His former bandmates David Gilmour and Nick Mason are also working on a new album under the Pink Floyd name.
