Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore Starts New Supergroup

Sonic Youth have gone on an indefinite hiatus, but the band’s members have been keeping busy, especially singer/guitarist Thurston Moore. Moore has already released a new album with his band Chelsea Light Moving, and now he’s started a new group under his own name. The Thurston Moore Band will make their debut in Amsterdam on August 19th.

The band, which features Moore’s SY bandmate Steve Shelley and My Bloody Valentine bassist Debbie Googe, are touring in anticipation of Moore’s upcoming solo album, The Best Day. The album is set to come out in September on Matador Records, and Moore has already put out a new single from the album, “Detonation.” Right from the get-go, it sounds like vintage Moore, proving that the man’s work is ageless.
