Brothers Scott and Joel Owen, California natives with southern roots, have spent years working on their relationship as musicians, trying to find a unique place within the Americana genre they grew up with. Thus they formed PawnShop Kings, whose soulful blend of country and pop rock was influenced by their memories of their younger years at their grandfather’s lake plantation in Arkansas. Other influences include Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder and the Beatles, but it’s really their history as a family and as brothers that sets them apart from others—not to mention their vocal ability.

Since releasing a self-titled EP, produced by Phil Madeira (the Civil Wars, Emmylou Harris) and Lynn Nichols (Mat Kearney, MuteMath), earlier this year, PawnShop Kings have received plenty of well-deserved attention.

The brothers were committed to finding their own original sound, and their latest video for “When You’re Holding Me,” is the perfect example of their skillful harmonizing and songwriting. The video is just as the song is: simple and honest. The country duo is seen playing their instruments in an intimate living room setting surrounded by friendly faces, again placing family at the forefront.

You can check out the video for “When You’re Holding Me” below, exclusively through Elmore.
