Dave Mason has performed and recorded with everyone. No, seriously, everyone. During and after his time with British classic rock heavyweights Traffic, Mason lent his guitar talents to George Harrison, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, the Rolling Stones, Derek and the Dominos, Paul McCartney, Stephen Stills…all told, probably about half the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (into which Mason was inducted, as a founding member of Traffic, in 2004). In fact, it was at a party of Mason’s that Jimi Hendrix first heard Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower.” The pair rushed off to the studio to record Hendrix’s legendary cover that very night, with Mason on acoustic guitar.

All the while, Mason has cultivated a steady solo career with several albums and several thousand live performances. His most recent album, Future’s Past, released this May, now has Mason out on the “Traffic Jam” tour (see tour dates here), which will feature Traffic classics along with solo Mason material. At a recent stop at New York’s City Winery, the great Ebet Roberts was shooting for Elmore. Roberts’ photography resume is just as impressive as Mason’s music resume, and includes artists from Dylan to Springsteen to the Clash and publications from Rolling Stone to The New York Times to Newsweek. See selections of her work here and see some of her photos of Dave Mason at City Winery below:

  1. I saw Dave Mason Booed off the stage for bad mouthing the crowd at a festival. His attitude is atrocious. Traffic is Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi, Not Mason !!!!!!
