Guided By Voices Break Up

Guided By Voices break upGuided By Voices have come to what may be their true end. The beloved indie rock band announced their dissolution on their website today, just four years after the “classic” lineup of the band got back together again.

“Guided By Voices has come to an end,” the note reads. “With 4 years of great shows and six killer albums, it was a hell of a comeback run. The remaining shows in the next two months are unfortunately cancelled.”

Bandleader Robert Pollard first broke up Guided By Voices in 2004, but the “classic” lineup that recorded the albums many consider to be the band’s finest (namely, 1994’s Bee Thousand and 1995’s Ailen Lanes). That lineup released six albums since reuniting, which is a shocking number of albums to release in four years’ time if you’re not familiar with Pollard’s insistence on releasing as much music as possible as quickly as possible.

The band had a minor breakup scare in 2013 when drummer Kevin Fennell was fired for trying to sell his drumkit on eBay for $50,000 dollars. GBV soldiered on with a new drummer for a year after Fennell’s departure.
