Legacy Recordings Announces More Kinks Reissues

Legacy Recordings, The Kinks, The Essential KinksThis year marks the 50th anniversary of the first recordings by the Kinks. Legacy Recordings will celebrate by releasing The Essential Kinks, the group’s first career-spanning retrospective, on October 14, followed by a newly remastered deluxe edition of 1971’s Muswell Hillbillies on November 10. This all comes on the heels of Legacy’s September 9 digital re-release of 16 Kinks albums made for RCA and Arista between 1971 and 1985.

The deluxe edition of Muswell Hilbillies features nine bonus tracks (seven of which have never been released in North America) and a DVD including rare 1972 television appearances (also previously unreleased). Meanwhile, The Essential Kinks will include 48 tracks, including live versions of “Lola” and “Till the End of the Day” along with hits like “Well Respected Man” and, of course, “You Really Got Me,” as well as liner notes written by David Bowie. “I’ve never heard a Kinks song that I didn’t like,” Bowie wrote. “They are in the gut of every British song-writer who followed them and are indisputably a cornerstone of everything pop and rock. I love ‘em. The world loves ‘em.”

You can pre-order The Essential Kinks here, and order Muswell Hillbillies here.
