Roger Waters Reminds Everyone That He’s Not On The New Pink Floyd Album

Roger Waters Pink FloydPink Floyd are returning this year with The Endless River, their first album of new material in 20 years. However, one key member of the band will have nothing to do with the album’s recording or release: original bassist/lyricist Roger Waters, who left Pink Floyd in 1985 and has remained silent on the subject of his old bandmates’ new work. Yesterday, though, he took to Facebook to clear things up in case anyone was confused.

“Some people have been asking Laurie, my wife, about the album I have coming out in November,” Waters writes. “I do not have an album coming out in November. David Gilmour and Nick Mason have an album coming out in November.” Waters went on to clarify that he left Pink Floyd in the Eighties and was not involved in the band’s last two albums, A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell. In fact, Waters sued the rest of the band over the name “Pink Floyd” at the time and lost, which permitted Gilmour and co. to keep going.

If fans appear confused about Waters’ lack of involvement in a new Pink Floyd album, it’s not that surprising. For the past few years, Waters has been performing the Floyd classics Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall in concert, and he reunited with his old bandmates for a one-off performance in 2005. Still, given that The Endless River is supposedly based on recordings that the band did after Waters’ departure, it’s not surprising that he would choose to opt out of this.

The Endless River comes out on November 11th.
