Kyle Hollingsworth, the man behind all sounds keyboard-related with jam giants The String Cheese Incident, has a third solo project, Speed of Life; a refreshingly eclectic, modern mix of throwback funk and upbeat synth-pop. The 12-track assemblage features tuneful input from members of fellow Coloradan bands: The Motet, String Cheese Incident, Big Gigantic and Elephant Revival.

Opening track “Racer X,” sets an upbeat, high-energy tone for the album. This Hammond-heavy instrumental funk tune (reminiscent of a SCI jam) invites listeners to get up, dance and get the party started-a perfect introduction to this lively collection.

The inspiration “Happening Now,” opens with a perky, high-pitched, synthesized melody line. Lyrics like “Year after year/Future’s never clear/All that’s now could be gone/So why not today/Grooving at the speed of light/It’s all happening now” were inspired by the birth of Hollingsworth’s daughter.

SCI’s latest album, Song In My Head boasts funky grooves and infectious beats as well. So, no matter whether you check out Hollingsworth solo or with SCI, get ready to dance.
