Alejandro Rose-Garcia (the artist otherwise known as Shakey Graves) seems like a man out of time. Listening to his recordings is like being transported to a simpler time, much in the same way that artists like Leo Kottke and John Fahey evoked a rustic, natural feel in their music. That’s not to say that Shakey Graves is a “retro” performer. Rather, it is to say that his work taps into something inherently primal and unpolished in American music traditions, which is a rare thing to even attempt.
