Since reuniting in 2007, garage-rock pioneers The Sonics have been regular fixtures on the road, and now they’ll be back in record stores again. The band have announced the upcoming release of This Is The Sonics, their first new record in over 45 years; the album will be released on March 31st.

In the 1960s, The Sonics produced a hard-edged take on garage-rock that was unlike anything else being produced at the time. Their single “Have Love Will Travel” became something of a cult hit, and artists from Bruce Springsteen to Jack White have all acknowledged The Sonics as influences on their work. Original members Jerry Roslie (keyboards), Larry Parypa (guitar & vocals) and Rob Lind (harmonica, sax, vocals)–who brought the band back together in 2007–all appear on the new album alongside a rhythm section whose credits include The Kingsmen and Dick Dale. Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Dirtbombs) worked behind the boards for the album.

The Sonics have also given fans a taste of what’s to come with “Bad Betty,” the first song off of their new album. From all indications, it sounds as if they haven’t lost their spark just yet. You can listen to the song below.
