For their newest album, rock veterans Los Straitjackets teamed up with roots legend Deke Dickerson to reconsider some of the great surf-rock instrumentals of years past with the lyrics that were supposed to be there all along. The result, Sings The Great Instrumental Hits, recasts hits like “Telstar” and “Walk, Don’t Run” with Dickerson’s unique vocals giving the songs a different dimension. On “Fury,” the light, fun nature of the project comes out. Even as Dickerson’s singing about starting fights, he seems to be having as good of a time as the masked band backing him up. The fun nature of “Fury” comes out even more in the music video, which features silly vintage commercials and — appropriately, for Los Straitjackets — a wrestling match.
