The husband and wife duo of Linford Detwiler and Karen Bergquist – the longstanding creative team behind Over The Rhine – have been making highly wildly acclaimed, literate, multi-textured, atmospheric alt folk/rock for over two decades now, and this new release, their 13th album, carries that grand tradition forward.

Inspired by the holiday season, Blood Oranges In The Snow collects all the darker emotions tangled in a hopefully joyous season. Loss, regret, depression, nostalgia, all appear within this finely honed, sharply crafted mix of five originals (the exquisite melancholy of “My Father’s Body” and the happy newness of “First Snowfall”) and four covers (a slower, more purposeful take on Merle Haggard’s real time Christmas chestnut “If We Make It Through December” and Kim Taylor’s humorous “Snowbirds”) Blood Oranges In The Snow, like several notable predecessors (Til’ We Have Faces, Eve, Ohio, Drunkard’s Prayer) not only raises the bar for the OTR canon, it will keep you scratching your head as to why this duo isn’t on everyone’s playlist.
